Plantation built in 1830, offering rooms with a balcony and a beautiful view of the estate

This plantation was built in 1830 by William Ruffin Barrow in the Greek Revival style. The house burned down almost entirely in 1960, leaving only the columns and the stoop, before being rebuilt in all its period splendor. It now welcomes guests for the night in one of the eleven cozy rooms on the property (note that the rooms are in cottages, not the main house). Each room has a balcony with a beautiful view of the estate, the main house and/or the pond.

Really good, the beautiful view from your room across to the plantation building, the wonderful trees and the pond. The rooms are well appointed and a lot of small details that other places miss have been well thought through

Located on the grounds of a restored plantation, this is a quiet retreat. This was my wife's favorite lodging place on our 23 day road trip. The breakfast was very good as was the tour of the plantation. A trip highlight!

Fascinating is the only way I can describe our weekend. If you ever get the chance to explore St. Fransiville, please tour The Greenwood. I promise you will not regret it. The stories and heartbreak of owners passed down, devastation of watching it go up in flames in the 60’s and highlights of movies being filmed. Even Netflix on site while we we there this weekend! Will Smith (pre-slap ????) has a movie that will be out very soon in theatres and Sigourney Weaver’s kind demeanor to the workers on set (her movie should be out by the end of the year). I can’t say enough about the kindness and love from the owners and workers-they truly get to know you and want to make it your home as well. I will put the trailer in the comments. We also heard of a story from Mary, she serves breakfast, cleans rooms and works in the gift shop. Her son was deployed to Afghanistan and suffered a traumatic brain injury and PTSD. I want to share his story as well. He passed away this May, but the love and devotion his mom had, to fight for her son is overwhelming. I fell in love with the place, but more than that, I fell in love with the people. ❤️
