A beautiful example of colonial architecture, the small house of the Oakley plantation in St. Francisville
Built around 1806 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973, the little house on Oakley Plantation is a fine example of colonial architecture. It was here that John James Audubon, the famous American ornithologist, came to stay for a few months in 1812. He was in charge of teaching drawing to Eliza Pirrie, the owners' daughter. In addition to the house, there are also two slave cabins near the back of the house.
