A neo-Gothic church built to honor the faith of the early pioneers who settled on the New Roads site.

The Catholic community of Pointe Coupee is one of the oldest in Louisiana, dating back to 1728. St. Mary of False River is a neo-Gothic church built in honor of the faith of the early pioneers who settled on the New Roads site in the 18th century. A small church existed as early as 1823; the present church was built between 1904 and 1907 to designs by architect Theodore Brune. It features a beautiful carved altar, stained glass windows from Germany, and a Stations of the Cross in oil paint.
