Palace built in 1902-03, inspired by French castles and overlooking the historic district of New Roads.
The city's courthouse, inspired by French chateaux, dominates the historic New Roads district. Built in 1902-03 to replace the old courthouse that was destroyed by fire in 1846, it is in the Romanesque Revival style, constructed from locally made bricks. A two-story wing was added in 1939 on the north side of the building, then the entire building underwent several renovations in the mid-1980s.
