FORT JESUP STATE HISTORIC SITE
A pleasant fort for picnicking or walking, built in 1822 by Lieutenant Colonel Zachary Taylor.
The fort was built in 1822 by Lt. Col. Zachary Taylor and abandoned in 1846. Today, only the kitchen is original, the rest of the buildings having been reconstructed with the help of historians from the Army Quartermasters General's Office and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In 1961, the fort became a National Historic Site and a small museum was established. The interest of the site is relative, but the site is very pleasant for picnicking or walking.
