CHEROKEE PLANTATION
This 1839-classified plantation was the site of the famous Duel-Gaiennie duel. A strong political discussion between General Democrat Pierre Bossier and General F. Gaiennie of the then Opposant political party, led them to confront the rifle in duel. Gaiennie fired too early, so Bossier won the duel by killing his opponent. At that time, eleven citizens of Cane River died in duel following political tensions. General Bossier suicidera in 1844 for the same reasons. Many very elegant furniture dating from the 1890 s are still present, in this Creole plantation representative of the first plantations of Louisiana. The porch is pleasantly flowery: the Cherokee roses are numerous and have given their name to the plantation.
