COL DES MAMELLES
The summit culminates at 786 m, and is a starting point for hikes with trails from the Petit-Bourg and Pigeon teats.
From Col des Mamelles, which rises to 786 m, you can take beautiful walks. You will particularly go to these famous nearby mamelles, that of Petit-Bourg, in the southeast, that of Pigeon, in the south. The trail, which wraps itself around this second protuberance, shows from its sharp bends a view that extends to the top (768 m high), where the wonderful panorama mixes all directions: summits of Basse-Terre, Côte sous-le-Vent, Pigeon and its islets… From Mamelle Petit-Bourg (716 m), hikers follow Trace des Crêtes, which fits the mountain ridge southwardly to reach Pitons de Bouillante, at more than 1,000 m high. This walk is part of a trail of great mythical hiking that crosses the whole island lengthwise. The path joins N2 near Marigot, via Gros-Figuier and Beaugendre. Mamelle des Pigeons supports the remains of the pipe of a former volcano which rises to 768 m. A trace has been arranged for a better access to the site. The view of Nord Basse-Terre, Bouillante, Pointe-à-Pitre… is superb.
