CRAYFISH WATERFALL
A ten-metre waterfall falls with a deafening roar and a heavy flow, and you can take a dip in the cool water.
The site used to be full of ouassous, the local crayfish... which is no longer the case today. Located on the edge of the road of the Crossing, it is accessible to all free. Each year the waterfall attracts nearly 200,000 visitors. It is therefore preferable to choose the off-peak hours to better appreciate it (early in the morning or in the evening before nightfall). The 210-metre long course has been adapted for people with reduced mobility. It is paved, with a reduced slope and a stop for the view on the waterfall and carbets to rest in the shade. It takes only a short 1/4 hour walk to reach the entrance of the trail, under the cool trees. The Corossol River, cluttered with rocks, accompanies you with the help of markers to this waterfall, about ten meters high, which falls in a dizzying din. This waterfall, not very high, has a very important flow. Its roar increases as you get closer. Although swimming in the cool water is invigorating and safe, avoid diving from the top of the waterfall, as the bottom of the pool is made up of large rocks. Also be careful not to go there in rainy weather, as the water in the river can rise quickly...
So, if you see a change in the colour of the water (which turns brown) and leaves coming down from the river, this could be a sign of an untimely mudflow. It is strongly advised to turn back and return to your vehicle.
