KALINAGO BARANA AUTÊ
Interpretation center offering guided tours to discover Amerindian culture through a model village.
On the initiative of the Kalinago community, this interpretation center has been opened to introduce visitors to Amerindian culture through a model village. Guided tours are available (in English, French or Creole), but call for information, especially during the off-peak season. Demonstrations of traditional dance and song are by reservation only. On-site demonstrations include basketry, calabash carving, traditional pirogue building, cassava bread baking and the use of medicinal plants. During your visit, you'll also learn valuable information about the magnificent flora and fauna around you... Follow the trail around the village, as the views are breathtaking, especially the one overlooking the Atlantic coast. The interpretation center is located on the east coast, along the Crayfish River near Isukulati Falls, and features a traditional gift store and a gourmet snack bar with Kalinago specialties (cassava cassava, smoked fish and chicken, local juices...). A secondary road with parking has been built between the Salybia police station and the site. The center offers home-stay accommodation, including traditional cooking and gardening lessons, for US$20. You can also sleep in a tent or hammock in a carbet on site. Transport to and from the port of Roseau is available.
