SAINT JEAN'S BAPTISTERY
Go there and contact
An ancient baptistery, with a portal and stylophoric lions, used as a ceremonial place where children were baptized.
It is a much older site than one might imagine, located opposite the entrance to the cathedral bell tower. The origins of St John's Baptistery date back to the late5th century. Built on a Roman sanctuary, the building evolved over time, serving until the Revolution as a place of ceremony. Children from the parishes of Le Puy were baptized there. Among them, Blessed Agnès-de-Jésus, nun of Langeac, and the venerable Anne-Marie Martel, founder of the Béates. You can admire its portal and the stylophoric lions of Lombard inspiration.
