MUSEUM OF RELIGIOUS ART
A museum preserving sculptures, paintings, and silverware, housing a treasure, including the most valuable piece.
Located in the former hall of the States of Velay - on the second floor of the Mâchicoulis building - the Museum of Religious Art was created in 1895 by Aimé and Louis Giron. This vast room contains sculptures, paintings and silverware. The two imposing warriors of the Theban Legion and several bas-reliefs are noteworthy. Also worth seeing is the sacristy of the cathedral, which houses a beautiful treasure, the most precious piece of which is the famous Theodulf Bible, a remarkable manuscript written in 794-798 by Benedictine monks.
