Barychnikov (b. 1948), a Russian and later naturalized American dancer, choreographer, and ballet director, made his debut there. Born in Rīga, his career includes stints as a principal dancer with the prestigious New York City Ballet and the American Ballet Theatre. Rīga may not have the reputation of Moscow, but the city's opera house nevertheless programs many fine classical ballets and operas. The intimate atmosphere here, partly due to the small size of the hall, adds a lot of charm to the whole. Let yourself be tempted without hesitation!
