Nestled at the back of the cathedral, the 1991 Barricades Museum retraces the events that took place in Riga in January 1991 with the help of photos, replicas and models. The barricades are numerous clashes that took place, organized by the Latvian Popular Front against the USSR. It all began with the installation of barricades on the night of January 13. This action prevented the Soviets from declaring a state of emergency and bringing soldiers into the city.
