MARK ROTHKO ART CENTER
The Mark Rothko Art Center (Marka Rotko Mākslas Centrs) is located in the Arsenal building of the Daugavpils fortress. It is a multifunctional complex dedicated to the dissemination of contemporary art and the work of Mark Rothko (1903-1970), a famous painter and founder of abstract expressionism. It is the only place in Eastern Europe where the original masterpieces of Mark Rothko can be seen. His family emigrated to the United States in 1913 and he is considered an American artist and one of the most influential post-war painters.
