THE LEOTOING CASTLE
Go there and contact
Juché on a rocky pitch above the Alagnon Valley, overlooking the village of Léotoing, this castle preserves beautiful remains. The present castle dates from the xiiith century. The dolphins of Auvergne, counts of Clermont and Montpensier, and other ducs of Bourbon and Orléans were all in possession at some point. The big circular dungeon, with no defensive function, was designed to impress. Today, the imposing ruins of this fortified residence and its walls pierced by murderers still make their way. A castral chapel, called the chapel of the lepers, stands beside the fortress: It was thought that it was once the Church of the People (while the lords had their chapel in the castle).
