Žvėrynas is one of the oldest districts of Vilnius and has the appearance of a timeless island. Its name means "land of animals" because in the 18th and 19th centuries the area belonged to the wealthy Radziwiłł family, who let animals live freely so they could hunt them. At the beginning of the 20th century, the place became very popular with the Vilnius bourgeoisie. Today, the streets still house these typical wooden houses. Žvėrynas is undoubtedly one of the areas of Vilnius that is most suitable for a walk with your nose in the air.
