Peninsula Castle is Trakai's other castle. Built more or less at the same time, it was intended to defend both Trakai and Vilnius. Destroyed during the Russo-Polish war in the 17th century, its territory was donated to the Dominican order for the construction of a monastery. In the 19th-century Dominican monks' chapel, relics and liturgical objects, objects from the monks' daily lives, paintings and statues are on display.
