The former Jewish ghetto, Kovno Ghetto, is located in the Vilijampolė district (formerly known as Slobodka), on the opposite bank of the Neris, opposite the Old Town. It is bounded by Paneriu, Jubarko and Demokratu streets. It operated until 1944. A memorial is located on Kriščiukaičio, on the corner between Ariogalos and Linkuvos streets. In the summer of 1941, the Nazis locked up Jews in this ghetto, formerly known as the Slobodka ghetto.
