Destroyed during the Second War, the churches in Klaipėda were obviously not rebuilt by the Soviets. Nowadays, the only ones that can be seen are the recent St. John's Church (Lutheran-Evangelical, at Pylimo 2) and St. Mary's Church (Rumpiškės 6a), dating from 1960 (it was the only church built in the Baltics during the Soviet era). The Soviets destroyed the tower to turn this place of worship into a concert hall. The view from the tower, now rebuilt, is phenomenal and worth the 250 steps.
