ETHNOLOGICAL MUSEUM
An interesting museum with a rich collection of tools, crafts and religious objects that testify to the richness of the region's heritage.
Located in the heart of Addis Ababa University's tropical garden, this museum is one of the city's most interesting venues and well worth a visit, particularly for the exhibits on display, but also for its setting in the heart of a vibrant and lively university. We advise you to set aside a few hours if you want to immerse yourself in the explanations of Ethiopia's main ethnic groups. Clearly laid out and educational, this museum is well worth a visit. On two floors, a rich collection of tools, handicrafts and religious objects testifies to the country's rich cultural heritage. Numerous information panels, accompanied by maps, present each ethnic group with objects characteristic of its environment (clothing, utensils, jewelry, etc.), as well as its rites, traditional medicine and history. A vast, brightly lit room displays liturgical objects from the Ethiopian Orthodox faith, as well as a fine collection of naive paintings from the 19th and 20th centuries, depicting events from the country's history. Last but not least, a small labyrinth allows visitors to discover all the instruments of popular music, the sound of which is rendered by recordings that create a hushed atmosphere. The bedroom and bathroom of the last emperor, as well as a numismatic room, complete the tour. The guided tour is essential, included in the ticket price and very interesting.
