A square with a monument at its center, the 28 Megabit, commemorating the liberation of Addis Ababa on April 28, 1941.
At the center of Arat Kilo Square stands the 28 Megabit (Ethiopian calendar) monument commemorating the liberation of Addis Ababa on April 28, 1941. The obelisk is topped by the Lion of Judah, itself dominating a clock whose hands are set to the number 11, the hour of the capital's liberation. Nearby, the Faculty of Sciences houses the Natural History Museum. A little further up Avenue du Roi-Georges, to the right of the avenue next to Mariam Church, stands the opulent palace of the Patriarch of the Ethiopian Church.
