ABBE LAKE
This majestic lake between Ethiopia and Djibouti can be reached via the remains of abandoned armoured carcasses.
This lake is quite difficult to access. The track is still sometimes littered with the remains of armoured carcasses abandoned by the routed Derg army fleeing to Djibouti. It becomes extremely chaotic, but leads to this majestic lake straddling Ethiopia and Djibouti. All along the track, large stone circles testify to the establishment of these ephemeral villages occupied by nomadic tribes. On the sides of the road, each pile of volcanic stones marks the site of a tomb called a wahidal.
