MOSQUÉE JAMIA
This large mosque is considered a Muslim holy site due to the ancient presence of this religion.
Also known as the Great Mosque of Harar, the Jamia Mosque is one of the city's oldest Islamic religious buildings, considered a Muslim holy site due to the religion's long-standing presence here. Founded in 1216, the current building dates back to the 16th century, when it was extensively remodeled and its current minaret was added during the reign of Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Ghazi (1528-1543). His tomb is located in the mosque's prayer hall. It was further enlarged in the 19th century.
