A must-see Muslim market featuring all the region's ethnic groups around the arcades: Ge Usu, Oromo, Somali..
Below Harar's great mosque (the Jumia Mosque) is the Megala Guddo, known as the "Muslim market". It's a must-see, as all the region's ethnic groups rub shoulders around the arcades: Ge' usu, as the Harari call themselves, but also Oromo, Somali, Amhara and Argobba. The language specific to this last ethnic group, also spoken in the Ankober region, is said to be on the verge of extinction due to the small number of speakers.
