The excellent Ponsonby Backpackers is a warm and cozy base for visitors and longer-stay travelers to Auckland. It is located in a pleasant local house close to numerous bars. The few dormitories (one of which is for women) and rooms offer good comfort and are a far cry from the soulless factory hostels. A garden, a kitchen-dining room and a TV lounge are available for socializing with other residents over a drink. The atmosphere is young and family-oriented, with a good mix of entertainment and calm.
