The church on this site dates back to 1841 and was used to welcome the city's first Catholic immigrants, the majority of whom were Irish. First a simple chapel, then a church, it became a cathedral in 1848. Enlarged in 1885, the current building dates from 1908, when architect Edward Mahoney decided to demolish the old building and rebuild a new one. The neo-Gothic building is one of New Zealand's historic landmarks.

Beau monument d’Auckland
Un très beau monument à ne pas manquer lors de votre balade dans le CBD (quartier d’affaires du centre-ville). Non loin de la Sky Tower.

Située tout près de la Sky Tower, cette cathédrale est originale dans sa disposition intérieure. Le plafond en bois est très beau, sinon le reste est assez basique. À voir si on passe dans le quartier.
