The old cinema, built in 1929, can accommodate 2 380 spectators and has been restored at great expense and reopened for its 70 years on 20 December 1999. The auditorium is beautiful and Indian inspiration is surprising. The ceiling represents the southern sky. This Hall was honoured in the King Kong film of Peter Jackson. Apart from official demonstrations and performances, this site sometimes becomes a cinema, especially during the Auckland International Film Festival.
