Located in the suburbs of East Auckland and Howick, this reconstructed village has over twenty-six buildings from the colonial era. The visit takes you back to the first half of the 19th century and gives you a good idea of what life was like in the past. Originally belonging to the Ngai Tai, the place was settled in 1847 by the RNZ Fencibles (= retired colonial defense soldiers). In exchange for seven years of service, they were given a cottage and an acre of land.
