If you have a vehicle, park on Whareora Road or Boundary Road, from where the loop is about 1.5 to 2 km. It's a 12 km round trip from Town Bassin along the river. Once there, AH Reed Kauri Park takes you on an elevated trail through massive half-century-old kauri trees. Continue to Whangarei Falls to see a 26.3-meter-high waterfall cascading down basalt cliffs formed 2 million years ago. Kukupa, tui and riroriro birds should accompany you on the walk.
