The Thames Museum (Te Whare Taonga O Te Kauaeranga by its Maori name) is dedicated to local history, with sections devoted to the construction of the town at the time of the first hospital, the first school, the first stores and another on Maori culture. Old photographs and artefacts from the first settlers complete the picture. This small museum will show you what life was like on a goldfield just over 150 years ago.
