NOTRE DAME CHAPEL
Chapel where you can admire a collection of 12 Flemish paintings by Abel Grimmer dating from 1592 and the high altar in white marble from Italy.
This chapel houses an exceptional collection of 12 Flemish paintings dating from 1592, signed by Abel Grimmer, a painter who was then recognized as being on a par with Bruegel. They relate the life of Jesus and Flemish life in the 16th century during the twelve months of the year. During the revolution, a priest from Saint-Chamond fled to Montfaucon, his native village, taking the paintings with him. When he died, he offered them to the chapel. Also noteworthy is the high altar in white Italian marble with its columns in 24 different marbles and the 16th century statue of Our Lady of Montfaucon.
