Raukokore is easily recognisable by its Anglican church with the Catholic church. A few kilometres further, then the road leads to the beaches of Waihau Bay and Oruaiti Beach. Finally, 18 km after Raukokore, it's Whangapararoa and the end of the East Bay of Plenty, with the Cape Runaway that is only accessible on foot (we need to ask for permission because these are private lands). This is where, according to the Maori tradition, the canoes of the Tainui and Arawa, coming from Hawaiiki, landed around 1350.
