You'll probably see photos of this impressive rock engraving in all the leaflets promoting the Taupō region! Only accessible by boat, you'll need to hire a kayak or book a tour to get there. Created between 1976 and 1980 by traditional sculptor Matahi Whakataka-Brightwell, a native of Taupō, it depicts Ngatoroirangi, a navigator who guided two iwi (tribes) through the region several hundred years ago.
