If you've never tried surfing before, Wellington and the surrounding area can be a great place to learn! The waves are never overly large, but they're solid enough to allow apprentice surfers to experiment and taste the joys of this water sport so popular in this part of the world. Most courses take place in Lyall Bay, but you can also go further north to the Kapiti Coast, or to the iconic Castle Point. Group lessons include equipment hire; private lessons require hire.
