Like many such establishments in New Zealand, Picton's small museum presents the town's māori and European history. In particular, you can retrace the steps of the whalers, a trade so prominent in the country's history; but the museum, run locally by the Picton Historical Society, focuses mainly on the life of the inhabitants through objects bearing witness to different eras and activities carried out in the region. Cute and unpretentious.
