Lyttelton, a charming town set on the side of an extinct volcano, is a picturesque and historically significant location in the Canterbury region of New Zealand. It takes its name from Lord Lyttelton and was the landing site for the first ships of settlers from England. For nature lovers and adventurers, Quail Island is a must-see in the Lyttelton Harbour area. Accessible by ferry, this former quarantine station and leper colony offers hiking trails, history and beaches. In town, you'll also find plenty of cafés and boutiques to explore. Be sure to take a stroll through Lyttelton's safe streets and admire the quaint, historic houses, many with their own history. Lyttelton is the only town in New Zealand to be registered as a historic town. Despite the aftermath of the 2011 earthquake, which devastated and reshaped Christchurch, Lyttelton is rebuilding and moving forward to the next chapter of its history. Don't miss the opportunity to discover Lyttelton's magnificent views and vibrant history during your visit.
