More expensive than its neighbors, the Great Eastern Restaurant is nonetheless worth a visit for its kitschy, gilded setting and its wonderful dim sum prepared at lunchtime. This Cantonese restaurant used to have a reputation as one of the best Chinese restaurants in San Francisco. Unfortunately, it has lost some of its former quality. Don't expect fancy service; the waiters are pretty gruff. But don't take offense - it's part of the charm! For the record, President Obama once dined here.

This is my favorite Chinese Restaurant in San Francisco. The food is absolutely AMAZING and consistently delicious.

Overall meh. Restaurant very clean. Servers friendly but I had to ask for items. My chow mein was dry... I just left it. The Peking duck was the most reasonable price we found. It was ok...but if you mix the red chili sauce with the plum sauce, you will have a great zest flavor! I really enjoyed the wonton soup (the server granted my request for a small bowl). The fried shrimp dumplings and sweet and sour sauce was amazing!

This place was awesome. We ordered 4 different entrees and all were delicious. Tried the 20 year rice and feel like I'll be inebriated for the year or so. Service was great and would send anyone here for food.

Probably the best place to eat in Chinatown. S.F.

Good food but service was awkward. Just don't expect any traditional. The behavior is, I guess, culturally influenced. Not pleased.
