Flour + Water is an excellent restaurant with minimal but warm decor, offering an Italian-inspired menu with a distinct Northern California influence. Since opening in 2009, chefs Thomas McNaughton and Ryan Pollnow have made a name for themselves, opening several locations in San Francisco, including a pizzeria in North Beach. On the menu: revisited specialties such as grilled cod, duck ravioli, rum baba... All washed down with Italian wines, of course. You're in for a treat!

Some dishes are Italian forward, while others are New American, with Italian references, if that makes sense. Either way, still good food!

Flour+Water was an insanely great experience. every dish i tried was in the top tier of things i have ever tried. The amberjack in citrus sauce i almost considered just ordered a couple more and eating JUST THAT... but i had already ordered a couple other things. at some point i asked the waitstaff her preference across a couple pasts dishes i was considering, and i think she and i both heard different things - so the happy accident was that she brought all of them... and i ate them all anyway, all crazy good. the caramelle with squash stuffing was divine. Anyway, trying to figure out when i can make it back with more friends and family to be sure they try it too.

5 star meal, service, and atmosphere! My partner and I did the tasting menu and boy it did not disappoint. We were so inspired that we bought the cookbook and now make fresh pasta regularly. From the fresh pasta, to the perfectly curated menu, and delicious wine selection—this place is a MUST for anyone visiting or living in SF.
