Massive heritage hotel in a central location of SF. Rooms are very spacious and clean a bit noisy though. Comfy beds very friendly staff. It is a good value to what it is, I would recommend it ????.

I really would not recommend this hotel. Their response to other negative google reviews says it all actually, it is sub standard in almost every respect. Drastically in need of a major refurb both cosmetic and staff. Our room was really not clean, there was a filthy t-shirt hanging over the shower when we arrived and the whole room was grubby. The entire hotel is shabby. We complained and housekeeping came and removed it. We then discovered that the shower gel container was empty. The following day, they turned the beds down but didn’t refill the shower gel or clean the bathroom. Complained again and the person at reception said they’d credit my Marriott account with 5000 points by way of apology. That corresponds to £20…..! I’d expect a little more from a supposed top hotel for being given a room with the previous inhabitants filth. There were 2 (!) teabags in the room - both the same type, but no kettle to make tea with and only take away cups and plastic stirrers. No plugs near either of the beds. No automatic lights in the room so one has to fumble around the lamps in the dark to find the switch. The whole place feels cheap and nasty yet with astronomical prices. Most weird and confusing of all is their odd daily fee charge. The guy who checked us in raced through all the information at top speed, making it impossible to take in or fully understand everything. He gave me a piece of paper with all these supposed perks on, from 2 x free cable car tickets to $30 a day spend on food & drinks. I assumed this was because of my member status. He told me we HAD to use the $30 each day or we’d lose it. On checking out however I realised we’d been charged a daily “destination fee” of $30 and when I questioned it I was told that they charge this amount and then “give it back” in food & drink! What on EARTH is the point of that?? Except of course to confuse guests and trick them into spending at least $30 a day there. Absolutely bizarre and absurd way to do things and quite dishonest I think. This is no longer the grand hotel it still pertains to be. I would never stay here again.

Great location but room was very dusty despite asking to be it cleaned multiple times! Also bell porter made us feel it was mandatory to give him a tip as he made a smart remark to us when moving our luggage!

The walls here are paper thin, if you want to get a good night's sleep plan to stay somewhere else.

Hotel was great. Service was great, close to shopping, food, we booked here for an early work meeting, also made it a getaway, a couple nice dinners out.

Pictures out our room window. Weather was a bit cloudy rainy, but still got to see a lot. A sunny day be better.

Beautiful hotel, lobby & rooms. My fiancee was there for a month & we would gladly go back again!!!

I wish the gyms in every Westin were as good as this one. I don't want to travel further than downstairs to find a great gym when I'm already tired from traveling, so I appreciate the efforts this hotel goes to. They maintain a great gym, a safe environment inside, and a good variety of food options. Irresponsible local renters who hold no property interest in the city are welcome to live in denial, but outsiders can plainly see that San Francisco is a complete garbage hole right now. I appreciate this hotel providing everything a guest needs inside, so there is no need to risk our safety venturing out amongst the drug zombies.

I went to the breakfast, it was an OPEN BUFFET!
I didn't want scramble eggs, so I asked boiled, and they wanted me to charge 9 USD extra. That was terrible!

I stayed a the Westin for a week, not only did they charge my personal card instead of my work card for 4,500 thousand dollars - they did it twice! thats $9,000. Their response from the service desk was that I have to contact their accounts department nothing they can do it from the service desk and it would take 10 days. This left me in the United states with no money, my credit card over drawn and I had to call my work to help me get home. I tried to follow up but I can only find a contact number in the states and I don't waste anymore money on this company. DON'T TRUST THEM, they also, have so many extra fees and charges. Their were also people out the front protesting wage thief, I wish I joined them now.

My stays have always been wonderful here. However, today, I was given a dirty room. I asked them to change it. They sent me to the room next to it. This room has old food in the fridge. Clearly, the housekeeper on this floor is skipping corners. I go back downstairs to change rooms and ask for another floor not cleaned by whomever did the last two. I get an attitude as if I'm the problem. Huffing and puffing at me as he changed my room. I'm sorry, I just wanted to sleep in a room that I knew was throughly cleaned. Why such a attitude?

What a wonderful experience! The St. Francis is an historic property centrally located in Union Square with super easy access to public transportation (to and from the airports), shopping, sightseeing, restaurants in every price range, and SF's famous cable cars.

Our stay included a $25 daily food and beverage credit; bike rentals; 2 cable car tickets; and free bottled water or free refillable stainless steel water bottles.

The staff is gracious and very helpful - from check in to check out!

Highly recommended!

1. Hotel has a compulsory amusement fee which is ~$30 every day and you are mandated to pay it.
2. To make matters worse, even the wifi is not free.
3. At arrival, during check in the receptionist tried really hard to upsell me on a bigger room and tried to scare me for the chosen room that it would be too small (which I found to be totally wrong after checking in)
4. Shower is super old and a nightmare to operate

Better to avoid staying in this one.

Updated my review after my second day of staying here. 2nd night here and ordered room service just got fries. $12 fries uncooked, cold and soggy. And it’s the attitude you get when you point out their errors this place is a joke. Trust me find another hotel.

My recent experience at The Westin on Union Square was far below expectations due to a series of significant service and operational failures. Firstly, the hotel was overbooked, forcing my colleague to relocate to another hotel. Check-in was a 30-minute ordeal due to their system repeatedly declining my card, only to later discover the fault was on their end.

Additionally, the elevator malfunctioned multiple times on my way to the room, which was a further inconvenience. Upon entering my room, I found old food leftovers in the refrigerator, indicating a serious lapse in cleanliness standards.

These issues collectively reflect poorly on The Westin's management and customer service. I hope this feedback prompts necessary improvements to avoid such experiences for future guests.

Can't go wrong with a stay here

I stayed here on business and had a wonderful stay. Incredibly comfortable and amazing service you would expect from the Westin. Foyer area is well set up for a quick coffee to go and/or casual business meeting.
My only regret is that my schedule was so busy I did not get to spend enough time here.

What can I say?
The St Francis Hotel at Union Square! Beautiful!

I've been here before, and I know the rooms can be boxy and small, so that was no surprise, but when they gave me a third floor, inside room I was a little disappointed. When I got into it though I was really disappointed: the only light filtered in through a single small window that faced directly into the fan of the massive rooftop air-conditioner. Fortunately it was a weekday check in and they were able to change the room to better one, but first one was so bad you had to wonder what they were thinking.
The bigger problem was that the hotel is under re-construction, something that wasn't mentioned when I made the reservations, or mentioned on line. That meant that the traditional front entrance was completely sealed off, the restaurant was closed and no lunch or dinner meals could be had on the premises, the hotel bar was relocated to a cozy little speakeasy that you had to leave the hotel and walk to, and there was almost no common area to settle in in any part of the hotel. With all those amenities gone, the effect was similar to staying in an extremely expensive Holiday Inn. Except, at Holiday Inn you can make your own waffles for breakfast.
I will not return here in the future. There are plenty of other quality hotels in the Union Square area to choose from.
Five star for us although this hotel does not have " it; que" 4. It is a magical place, a hotel with a history (for the old part of course). Ideally located on Union Square, in the center of SF, we have an unforgettable stay and delays us to come back for a forthcoming stay.
