STANYAN PARK HOTEL * * *
1883 Victorian Queen Anne Beaux-Arts style home offers rooms with views of Golden Gate Park
Queen Anne Beaux-Arts-style Victorian house built in 1883, with floral tapestries on the walls. Combined with antique furniture, it's almost like stepping back in time. Fortunately, it's fully equipped. Some of the 36 en-suite rooms have a view of Golden Gate Park, so be sure to ask when you book. The team will take care of your every need! A romantic address that we'll choose for its location between Golden Gate Park and the hippie district of Haight-Ashbury.

Pros: Great location, super quiet. They ended up giving us a huge apartment-like room for 4 guests. Cozy breakfast area and breakfast was provided.
Cons: Our apartment-like room was super drafty and a little bit creepy. It looked like an older apartment that was converted into a hotel room. To access it, we had to go into their courtyard to get to the room, which had a mysterious dark hallway. The street noise was fine even though the other side of the room was facing the street.
The biggest complaint here is that a few days after the booking, I noticed a $200 charge. I called in to ask about the additional charge and I was told by a non-manager it was a damage fee. I asked for more details and they let me know it looked like damage to a chandelier and the roll-away bed--but to confirm they would have to connect me to the manager. The manager was out for the weekend, so I tried again the following week. After many calls to the front desk over multiple days, the manager was always busy or did not return my call or email. I could not successfully talk to the manager about this alleged damage, which I know we did not commit because we're respectful, well-traveled guests. In order to get more details on the damage or to settle on a resolution, I had to speak with the manager but alas, he was nowhere to be found. I disputed this on my CC -- beware!
EDIT: I see the response by Bill. (Not sure how to respond to it) Yes my friend got the voicemail and she has called for the past three days to no response. :) Bill - she sent you an email as well. If you say you can look at the security footage you should really just do it to clear the hotels name. She left her bag around 2AM - but your employees can tell you that.
At check in we were extremely disappointed in the state of the room. There was garbage left by the previous guest. Dirty nooks in the bathroom with a door that didn’t lock. The kitchen chair had a hole in it. The bedding looked like what you’d get at a hostel. The whole “suite” looked like it hadn’t been updated in decades and there were paint chips missing everywhere and various holes on the wall. Oh and the corridors reeked of marijuana. And it wasn’t cheap!
We decided to check out immediately because we just couldn’t get comfortable. Rather than ask us what they could do to make our stay better the staff said nothing. We asked for a refund but got nowhere. This business clearly doesn’t care about people having a good experience.
The one positive I can offer is that the location is great.
The internet was wildly unreliable. It would work for long periods, allowing video, and then just stop working for several iterations on the order of minutes. I realized that I needed to forget the network and then log back in with pass:Tea…. It happened in my room and the lounge. Normally I wouldn’t care but I needed it for work. In the end, I would stay there again. I am never sure how to star things.
Ps… works well for UCSF. 0.5 miles with a hill.
