Very touristy destination with a large aquarium, iconic restaurants, souvenir stores and museums

It is a very touristy destination of San Francisco which can sometimes irritate for its amusement park side. However, you should know that a visit to the city without the few streets of Fisherman's Wharf and its famous Pier 39 would be incomplete! Americans, as fond of fun as they are of sweets, love this place for its cotton candy smells, its waffles, but especially its sea lions! These sea lions, installed since 1990, on the west side of the pier, are a delight for young and old. From the end of July to May, hundreds of them can be seen, up to 600 on certain days, but don't worry, a few die-hard residents stay all year round! Pier 39 is also home to one of the largest aquariums on the coast(Aquarium of the Bay), iconic restaurants (Boudin's famous clam chowder bakery, the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company inspired by the movie Forrest Gump , and the Hard Rock Café), the starting point for boat rides off Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge, and a wide selection of souvenir stores of all kinds.

At the western end of the tiny Fisherman's Wharf neighborhood is the very interesting San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park . The Fisherman's Wharf area also encompasses other Piers, including historic Pier 45, which features the Madame Tussauds Museum, the San Francisco Dungeon, the Mechanical Museum and the USS Pampanito (a World War II submarine).
