Wonderful stay at this little hotel by the beach. Definitely recommend! There needs to be some improvement, but it's an old building as well, so it still maintained the old charms.

Really nice place to Stay near San Francisco. It is very familiar, you have all you need. Sausalito is a beautiful place, quiet and you feel like in a dream. I recommend it!!

My wife and I stayed in the "Lilac Room" at the Gables Inn for two nights last week, and we really enjoyed our time there. The room was very comfortable and had a nice view of the bay, San Francisco, Alcatraz Island and the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge. The staff were very friendly and helpful with suggestions on restaurants, things to see, history of the inn, etc. A very short walk to the downtown and waterfront, and parking was quite convenient. If the small lot at the lobby of the inn happened to be full, there were several alternatives for parking close by which also honored the inn's parking pass. The next time we're in the area, we'll definitely plan on staying there again!

The room smells like BO and is hot. Can't open all windows to get a cross breeze. No AC not that it should be needed if you could open the window. Rooms keys didn't work. Flowers in the lobby are half dead drooping sadly with dirty flower water in the vases.
The website Pictures are deceiving and the staff could at least crack a smile.
Expected better for the price and agree with other reviews that this is in no way a 3 star hotel.
This is the third time I've updated this review as this room is the gift that keeps giving. The BO smell is becoming unbearable.
Can't make coffee in the cheesy Keurig and watch TV at the same time. Lol. Come on you can't spring for a power strip?
The coffee cups are so small that they overflow at the smallest cup setting on the Keurig. I guess it's a good thing I had to move the Keurig to the bathroom where there is an outlet.
And don't be fooled by old reviews, there is no wine or cheese, nor breakfast to be had here.

This is a really lovely hotel in Sausalito. We stayed for tourism. Check in was efficient and we stayed in the “willow” room. The balcony was beautiful, bathroom functional, bed super comfy and it was a quiet hotel. It’s walkable to everything in Sausalito. Fridge, coffee maker, glasses and a couple of cups provided.
If you plan a trip to San Francisco, do so before the last ferry back! We wanted to get an Uber and no cab drivers wanted to take us back to Sausalito. Made for a very stressful evening. But easily rectified with good planning so felt this was a good hint. Sausalito is beautiful in the evening anyway ????

I did not have high expectations for this hotel based on the reviews, but I was completely blown away by how beautiful, cozy and charming the hotel was. I stayed for one Saturday night with my mom in one of the cottage rooms. The room was perfect for us, clean and looked like it may have been recently renovated. Beautiful wood floors throughout and a bathroom that was updated and a perfect size for us. I felt like I was staying in a cottage in the south of France. The walk from the cottage to the main street was less than a minute. I woke up early in the morning and I went out on the balcony attached to our cottage and had a beautiful view of the sunrise over the little shops across the street, the ocean and the mountains. We stayed in several hotels during our trip throughout California and the Gables was by far our favorite place we stayed. I loved my stay at the Gables and I have already recommended it to friends and family who are planning trips to Sausalito. I hope I can come stay again one day!

It’s mind boggling to see this rated as a three star hotel - it may have been at one time, but in m opinion, it’s not now. Where do I begin… Check in was weird - something you might expect at a haunted B&B. The front desk attendant was not friendly at all - all business. Accessing the room was a labyrinth of staircases and hallways (not good if you have any mobility issues), the desk attendant did offer to help with luggage. As noted other reviews, there is a general state of disrepair - the sink faucet was loose, the sink didn’t drain well, the faucet in the tub/shower didn’t mix well so it was scalding hot or way too cold. The outside access door had no working lock, so zero from a security standpoint. The bed was very comfortable, but given the general sense of poor operations, I really had to wonder if sheets and bedding were changed. I travel a lot, and I don’t consider myself “picky” but I do have certain standards that I think all hotels should meet: clean, working order, and safe. This one didn’t pass. Great location and comparatively inexpensive (you get what you pay for).

Sometimes when people use the word "charming" to describe a hotel or inn, they are merely sugar-coating the fact that the place is old and rundown. The Gables Inn gets a solid 5 stars for its location and views, but that's all it has going for it.

Staff is...odd. Not warm, friendly or inviting. The check-in process was goofy. The person who checked us in insisted on taking us up to our room, but she got a weird phone call about someone wanting her private info. Clearly sounded like a spam call or solicitor; not sure why she didn't just hang up or, at the very least, toss us the keycard so we could get settled. We had to wait at the top of the stairs for a bit before she came up let us in.

Upon entering our room, we encountered a horribly stained carpet. Blech. I can't understand why they won't deep clean or replace it; it's a small space and wouldn't cost much. The rest of the room had laminate flooring that seemed clean, but the dirty, stained carpet in the entry is the first thing you see when you walk into the room. It makes a bad impression that sticks with you.

The rest of the room smelled and looked clean, but it could use some updates—especially the bathroom. And the Keurig machine makes sad coffee. Spring for a Nespresso or maybe offer good drip coffee in the lobby, as most inns or hotels do.

Our room had a balcony with a great view of San Francisco and the Oakland Bay Bridge. This was the highlight of our stay at Gables Inn. The inn's location is great—within walking distance of the water and many shops, restaurants and cafes.

If the owners would invest in some updates and train their hospitality staff re: what it means to be hospitable, this place could really shine.

Information says "wine and cheese" offered, but they do not. The fireplace in the room did not go on. The desk person didn't come and check but simply said, "We'll look into it tomorrow." Room was comfortable, location great, but the hospitality really bad.

Small but charming rooms. The hotel itself is historic and beautiful and feet from Bridgeway, the waterfront street.

Stayed here for 15 nights whilst visiting family. Lovely hotel, well situated close to the main road in Sausalito which was handy to walk into town and explore. Room was well presented and comfortable. Comfy bed. Good shower. Coffee machine supplied and topped up with pods when needed. I marked it down by one star because they no longer offer breakfast or the wine and cheese reception in the evening. I appreciate that because of Covid it was stopped but the lack of breakfast especially was disappointing. Hopefully they'll bring it back for the next time we visit.

Great location and charming building that is MARRED by staff and upkeep issues.

Stayed in the Sycamore room for one night earlier this week. We ran into a couple problems as soon as we got there. The concierge Dimitri was really curt with us and didn’t seem interested in answering our questions when we checked in. We then went to dinner which was wonderful and came back to our room to find several spiders and a fireplace that didn’t work. I called the manager and all he could say was that the fireplace “worked yesterday” (so obviously I must be doing something wrong?). Well he then sent Dimitri in to look at it, and he made minimal effort to determine the problem and stated he couldn’t fix it until the next day. We just decided to call it a night after that but certainly lost a good hour of time focusing on it.

At checkout, there was no concierge present and none of our problems with our stay were acknowledged over the phone (we had to call to figure out how to check out).

Also, the info booklets need to be updated, as they note a continental breakfast from 8-10 every morning which is no longer the case.

Very interesting 100 year old inn that has been remodeled. Very clean. Easy walking to many places along the water. Highly recommended.

The man who was running the desk with the thick foreign accent was curt, short with answers and quite frankly, rude. The parking was insane and almost impossible. My room was a bit above the basics. Location marked lower due to the fact that I had to park in some strange garage.

Me and my wife had a great stay at the Gables Inn. The room was unique and beautiful with a fireplace and balcony to look out onto the SF bay. There are many great shops, restaurants, and cafes close by. While we were at the Fisherman's Warf in San Francisco one evening our car was broken into. I mentioned it to the gentlemen at the front desk at the Gables because our car had a busted window, so I asked if I could park close the building. He said that would be fine and upon checking out he gave us a deduct for free parking at the hotel even though there was a nightly rate which would have cost us 2 nights. Even though the theft didn't happen in their parking lot, he was very thoughtful and wanted to show his sympathy for our misfortune. All in all, I highly recommend this Inn!
