MONTEREY STATE HISTORIC PARK
In addition to the gardens, the main attraction remains Louis Stevenson House. It was in this Victorian house that Robert Louis Stevenson threw the time to find inspiration for his masterpiece L'Île au Trésor. He spent a few months in 1879, still unknown. His walks in the Monterey Peninsula inspired the decor of his imaginary island.
Attention: make sure to call before your visit to check the opening of Louis Stevenson's House. The house was closed to the public because of budgetary restraint, and only opened in summer with the help of volunteers in the region.
