Favorite place to say in Big Sur, the place is amazing. They need to train their staff on proper customer service. Very condescending staff.

We were there for Christmas and indeed a great spot. Enjoyed the dining experience, with great specials, and then also the breakfast experience that included an order of the blueberry pancake, with the place full, and the space and staff were absolutely fantastic.
Definitely recommend the restaurant. The chef(s) there are on top of it.

Honestly the food here is insanely good. One of the reviews says Michelin star worthy and it’s 100% worth the trip. Whatever the specials are get them. We had the seafood paella and the short rib. Both were amazing!!

Went for brunch with some friends. Amazing history and charm in this now non-profit, historic landmark designated spot. Cats wander the grounds, can take a seat at one of the benches peppered throughout the grounds, listen to the babbling brook, and take in the crisp mountain air. The breakfast foods were lovely - we have the eggs benedict, french toast, huevos rancheros, and two eggs scrambled. Everyone loved their meal. They offer black coffee to go but no other drinks for takeaway. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a breakfast or brunch spot in Big Sur.

We stayed in the Castro cabin. While modernized it's still very rustic, adding to the experience. We enjoyed our time on the deck listening to the creek. The restaurant was superb. The chef's talents are on display with every dish.

Came for the food, didn't stay here overnight. Had such a lovely dinner with my friends to celebrate a milestone birthday. I really was so appreciative of how they worked with me with my constantly changing reservation number for the dinner, Katie was very kind! The food was fantastic, the ambience has that old timey Big Sur living room in the woods vibe, you couldn't recreate it if you tried! Very cozy and made for a special and memorable meal. Thank you to Deetjen's!

This is such an amazing place to stay! Definitely can't find anything like this anywhere else! Even though it's right off he highway, it's very quiet and feels very remote (the lack of cell signal and wifi helps with that). It's such a great place to come to be unplugged and enjoy nature. The rooms were extremely clean and cozy. It's so peaceful to sit by the water and sketch.
Breakfast was excellent! They are super accommodating for food allergies and everything tastes great! The server we had was one of the sweetest servers I've ever met! I recommend the eggs Benedict!!!
Dinner wasn't a good a breakfast. The server was accommodating for my allergies, but failed to mention that the food that my family was ordering had tree nuts in it (my family avoids tree nuts when I'm around them because my allergy is airborne). Food tasted good, but not as great as breakfast.
Definitely recommend this place to anyone that wants to get unplugged, enjoy nature, and stay at a historic place!

Breakfast menu served until noon. Had some excellent eggs Benedict just before noon, no issues, very friendly staff and tasty food.

I stopped here by chance, as it was the last opened place, before the roads had closed for bad weather. Such a beautiful place, with a food quality and price that I thought were unachievable in California. I got a perfect pair of Eggs Benedict and the best pancakes in my life. I will stop here every time I come back.

Special doesn’t begin to describe Deetjen’s. It’s a jewel. Rustic, beautiful, cozy.

There's a reason this place is an icon. Had heard about it long before coming to Big Sur. Popular among visitors and locals. Offers cozy, rustic, & old world charm that is rare on the West Coast.
Breakfast was good, with excellent service.

Beautiful little place tucked away in Big Sur. The food (breakfast and dinner) was perfect, the room was cozy, and the cats were adorable and friendly. Parking is a little tight (we were even parked in for half an hour one morning), and we had trouble keeping our wood stove lit, but everything else was too perfect for us to mind. Be prepared for no service or wifi.

Stopped by the restaurant at Deetjen's while passing through Big Sur. The restaurant has a cozy atmosphere in a historical building with a wood-burning fireplace and interesting decorations throughout the restaurant. The service is also great...waiters and waitresses were friendly and very attentive. Lastly, the breakfast burrito was mind-blowing. Will definitely be returning for another breakfast burrito on my next visit

A very magical place in the woods right by the coast too the best of both worlds. The resturant has really good food. There are cats on the property which are friendly. The views of the surrounding woods are breath taking. 10/10 must visit and stay or just check it out and have breakfast.

Deer Jen’s is hands down one of the coolest detailed Inn I have been to, the character, the small details, the kittens running around everywhere. It’s a must. I’m coming back soon!
We loved our time at Deetjen’s. We stayed in the Faraway room, which was an incredibly cozy home base for us. The interior design was impeccable, the bed was comfy, and the fireplace (with ample firewood and newspaper supplies provided) was superb.
We were quite impressed with the food. Awesome breakfast and dinner. Great elevated home cooking with fresh ingredients. We also had dinner at Post Ranch during our stay, which was very good (and hard to beat the view!), but I’d take dinner at Deetjen’s any day.
We visited during the weekend of the Highway 1 erosion to the north of Big Sur, and the staff had us covered every step of the way. They gracefully offered to let us extend our stay for as long as we needed to/were stuck in Big Sur, and then when the convoy out was announced, we heard the news first from a call from Deetjen’s. Truly fabulous handling of the situation, and they’re such a positive force in the community.
Totally recommend a stay here!
