My husband and I stayed in room 12 with our dog visiting Mendocino for the first time and fell in love with the area! Our room was beautiful and we loved with unique windows and vibe of the room.

But the reason I couldn’t give it a 5/5 is that the room had some uncomfortable issues. The second we walked into the bathroom there were little bugs all over the floor. I wrote it off as an older establishment so it’s normal to have some little critters but these small beetles were relentless! We were kicking them out of the way when we walked around so not to step on them. We had our dog with us and we were already settled in the room so I really didn’t want to move rooms.

The bathroom also had horrible ventilation. Even when we left the vent on 24/7 it still smelled really musty. Paying over $350 per night is a lot to have to deal with bugs and a smelly bathroom.

Overall, the location was great, the breakfast was delicious, and the hot tub was very relaxing but next time I’ll be sure to check for bugs before we get settled into the room.

We stayed in the water tower and it was perfect for us. The rooms were very comfortable and ample space for us 3. The included breakfast was delicious. We also had a wonderful dinner here, and the location, views and gardens are all perfect.

We stayed here during a power outage as MacCallum as they offered us a discount and the staff were extremely courteous and professional, the amenities excellent. Would recommend MacCallum to anyone.

We came for a romantic New Years Eve weekend in quaint Mendocino. In general we liked it, but with some caviates.

Our first impression with the room was one of a disappointment. We stayed in room 12 and the pictures did not really represent the feeling of being there. It seemed quite outdated on first arrival. The odd windows placement at the floor was what counted as "partial ocean view" but only if you squat down to look, while leaving that window unblinded leaves you feeling a bit exposed to outsiders, so we never really had it. The old carpets and ugly paint didn't help. And there wasn't good ventilation for when it got hot at night. I get they want to keep the quirky unique feel from room to room, but imo they could have done more with the room to make it feel the price we paid, even while keeping its charm.

Regardless we settled in and had a good time regardless. The large bath and hot tub definitely helped. It has a very quiet and relaxing atmosphere, and was the break we were looking for from city life.

Note: they only refresh your room if you ask, so be sure to do so if that's what you are expecting.

For breakfast you get choose a dish off the menu. Over 3 days we got try most of the menu and it was all pretty good. Far better than your average free breakfast. They use local/organic ingredients wherever possible, which was a welcome change vs corporate hotels. There was a little bit of inconsistency in the meals, we got the eggs benedict twice, and once the sauce seemed broken, whereas the second it was gorgeous. Also while the breakfast is "free" you still pay a service charge of around $4 a dish... so more like almost free. Breakfast is definitely still worth it, but imo they really should just comp that too cause it was odd enough to stick out.

We may look to come back again, but will be sure to book a different room.

Great place to stay. Rooms are rustic but nice. Beds very comfortable. Breakfast is included again just like before Covid times. You have to pay 20% service charge but you can order anything off the menu which is is generous.

I got married in Mendocino at another location and we decided to have our reception dinner at the maccallum house. From the very beginning, the communication with their management was great. They were responsive and helpful. We had a party of 27 and reserved a private room in their dining room. Everything was WONDERFUL. We chose the caprese salad, king salmon, cheese plate, and bread and butter as appetizers (which were the recommendations of the chef). For entrees, we chose the steak, duck, and market seafood. Everything was delicious. It was warm, flavorful, with a beautiful presentation and all brought out in a timely manner which is not easy for a party of 27! The service was top notch. All of their staff was friendly and attentive. The location is great! Right in the middle of town and the building and grounds are so beautiful and well maintained. My family was all raving about the experience. We couldn’t have picked a better spot to have our wedding dinner.

I really like their craft cocktails, we go to Mendocino every year and always drop by their bar for a Negroni, we had a great night here. Lovely bar staff. I think its the best place for cocktails in the area.

We stayed here recently and we were disappointed in our service. The room was nice and big and we liked the first floor w/king bed. My problem was we never got our room cleaned. We were not told we need to put a sign out on the door to have our room serviced. We also didn't have any type of sign in our room. We only found this information out after looking in the book on the second page. There was an ice maker in the building but no ice, seems you could have gotten some at the main hotel but that was 3 blocks away. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was good along with the service. Breakfast was another story...we had to ask for coffee twice and had to ask for them to take our order. There were 3 other tables seated and all had issues from lack of service to a over charge on the bill. I will never eat at this restaurant or stay at this location again. We paid over $400 a night and had subpar experience.

We had dinner here and the food and service were incredible. The lamb and halibut were delicious. Home made bread and ice cream. Do yourself a favor and have the chocolate Carmel ice cream. It’s heavenly.

Quaint location in a small coastal town. Amenities contemporary and clean. Restaurant excellent. Service and food appropriate for the price paid. Will come again. Glad they had a clean private hot tub after a long day of traveling and walking.

According to the advice of Petit Futé we dined here with my son.
140$ per two courses and 2 glasses of wine (Chardonnay single).
Good food. Good wine.
Price of a Michelin star. And more...
After booking, the reception was so unpleasant that we almost to give up coming to dine one hour later. But the dissatisfaction of the mall has puffed for 15 days was more fort.
New cold welcome, deciduous and pleasant service.
