When we checked out I did tell the front office lady that we were highly disappointed and that it was ridiculous we paid SOOO much money for the room we got. She did discount the room by 20% without any hesitation. I said “wow… clearly, you’ve had this complaint before” she gave me a smile as if we agreed but she couldn’t exactly say it with words.
When leaving the valet service had our car ready and he handed our keys from inside. He didn’t open the hotel lobby door for us, he didn’t walk us to our car — nothing. Literally, had he JUST opened the hotel door he would have received a generous tip. It was 7am in the morning, we were the only people leaving so he wasn’t busy. We just truly couldn’t stand staying in that depressing room any longer!
Their restaurant, The Grange is a must-try for breakfast--dont miss the Penna Cotta pancakes!
The staff are just icing on the cake. I used to avoid this location, but this is now our new favorite spot to book.
We checked in when the computer system was down. But the staff made it easy to "check in" using old school pencil and paper.
With it being downtown, we were walking distance to lots of places. We had family stay at different hotels in the area and The Citizens was above all the rest.
If we are ever in the Sacramento area again, we will not stay anywhere but here.
They upgraded us to a higher level room which I later learned why…
We were tired from travel so grabbed drinks and a burger from the bar. Excellent food and service there.
On our way up we passed a wedding party going to floor 7 for a reception. Looked great. We were on floor 12. Then as we got in bed to watch tv we could hear the music and feel the bass from the music as if we were next door to a loud party. We thought this can’t go on… and hours later it continued. We called the front desk to get an eta on an end time as we couldn’t sleep.. and were informed there were ear plugs in the bathroom (so they knew this was an issue). I wasn’t mad at the people working as they couldn’t control the situation and it was someone’s wedding.. but the hotel knows this is an issue and they should alert guests coming in for the night who are wanting rest. Otherwise, zero issues with the property for us.
They found the key 6 HOURS LATER and refused to tell me where it was. Said their manager told them they couldn’t tell us. Made me wait 75 minutes to they my car out of
Valet.
Rooms are old, beat up, badly in need of a remodel. Food is awful. Beds are cheap. Don’t stay here
I stayed in a holiday in express the next night instead for half the price with twice the experience and I am a 5 star only hotel person.
This is the worst hotel in California. 0 integrity or commitment to customers. Do not stay here.
I will pursue this legally due To the fact that I can afford it and companies should not be allowed to ruin a guests entire trip with 0 apology accountability or desire to make it right. I spent hundreds on Ubers alone just trying to make my events.
Decent amenities for Mariott members. The $15 food and drink voucher was nice, as were the bottles of water.
I enjoyed the breakfast and the food served during the meeting was good as well.
The restaurant and bar are vibrant and full of life.
It's very near to a handful of bars and res.
Walking distance to the arena.
