An incredible pile of basalt columns, which were created by a lava flow more than 100,000 years ago.
An incredible pile of basalt columns or basltic organs. The columns were created by a lava flow more than 100,000 years ago. Blocked on its way, it reached a thickness of about 120 meters. The very slow cooling of the lava due to this thickness explains the impressive length of the columns. A path allows to reach the summit, from where the view is unforgettable. Closed in winter because of snow.
