Kataklysmos ("flood" in Greek) coincides with Pentecost and is celebrated in seaside towns such as Larnaka.
This "Flood" festival (Κατακλυσμός, Festival of the Flood) is held in the coastal towns of South Cyprus, for five days starting on Whit Monday, on a moveable date, fifty days after Orthodox Easter, between late May and June. The biggest of these is in Larnaka. In addition to religious and secular celebrations, the town hosts oral poetry competitions: the tsiattista/τσιαττιστά. These have been included on Unesco's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2011.
