CIMON MONUMENT
Small 1927 monument to Athenian strategist Cimon (or Kimon), who died at Kition (Larnaka) in 450 BC.
This small 1927 monument (Μνημείο Κίμωνα/Mnimio Kimona) pays tribute to the Athenian strategist Cimon (or Kimon), who fought against the Persians in Cyprus and died during the capture of Kition (Larnaka) in 450 BC at the age of 60. This bust by Greek sculptor Georgios Alexandropoulos (1889-1942) stands on a 3.80 m-high marble column. The pedestal bears the inscription "Και νεκρός ενίκα" ("Victory despite death"). And, 200 to the north, is the Armenian Genocide Monument created in 2008 by another Greek artist, Georgios Kalakallas (1938-2021).
