TIMIOS STAVROS CHURCH OF LEFKARA
Orthodox church remarkable for its pediment decorated with sculptures of the Byzantine double-headed eagle, Venetian lions...
This Greek Orthodox church (Ιερός Ναός Τιμίου Σταυρού/Ieros Naos Timiou Stavrou) is the largest in Lefkara. Its long nave and two asymmetrical bell towers blend Gothic and Byzantine styles. It was built in the 14th century and remodeled until the 19th century. It houses a large iconostasis (1760) and a crypt housing a silver cross containing a supposed relic of the Holy Cross. Beautiful panoramic view of Kato Lefkara and the valley from the forecourt.
